Ellensbrook

Ellensbrook

Visit the picturesque grounds of the Ellensbrook Historic Home and Picnic Grounds and discover a significant piece of the state’s history. Enjoy lunch under one of the old trees along the waters edge and soak up the tranquil surroundings. Wander around the charming 1850s homestead which was once home to Alfred and Ellen Bussell, the first European settlers in the region. Take in the beauty of the renovated National Trust building and ponder on the isolation experienced by the original inhabitants.

Nestled within Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, Ellensbrook lies on coastal sand dunes and next to a continuously flowing stream. Take advantage of its location to explore much of the stunning countryside. Enjoy a 40 minute walk from the homestead to Meekadarabee Cave and the enchanting Meekadarabee Falls, which is a significant Aboriginal site. Known as the bathing place of the Moon by the Aboriginal people, the falls are best seen between June and November.

Ellensbrook Historic Home is open Saturday and Sunday and an entry fee applies. The picnic grounds are accessible all year and entry is by donation. Ellensbrook Historic Home is a leisurely 20 minute drive from Margaret River, three and a half hours drive south of Perth.
